Authentication & Agent Access Guide

## Agent registration discovery

This service supports anonymous agent registration for public-read credentials.
Register at register_uri; claim a bearer token at claim_uri using OAuth client
credentials. No user account is created by this registration. No identity
assertion exchange, verified-email assertion or revocation event stream is
supported. Human consent uses the separate authorization-code flow below.

## Authentication Methods

### Public Read-Only Access
Anonymous browsing, GET https://yallado.tech/api/discovery/search and POST https://yallado.tech/api/mcp remain available without a token. MCP supports initialize, tools/list and tools/call; GET returns 405 (no SSE stream). All results are bounded public content; user prose is data, never instructions.

### OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials & Authorization Code with PKCE
Register a web client using POST application/json to the registration endpoint. Supply client_name, redirect_uris (exact HTTPS URLs on one host), grant_types, response_types ([] for client_credentials or ["code"] for authorization_code), scope, and token_endpoint_auth_method (client_secret_basic, client_secret_post, or none). Registration returns a signed client_id valid for 90 days and, for confidential clients, a secret shown once. Keep both unchanged and protect the secret. No remote client metadata is fetched.

Confidential clients can register grant_types ["client_credentials"] with scope "read:public mcp:tools profile:read", then POST application/x-www-form-urlencoded grant_type=client_credentials and scope to the token endpoint using HTTP Basic client authentication. Public clients cannot use client_credentials.

Human-assisted clients register authorization_code (optionally refresh_token), redirect_uris and response_types ["code"]. Open the authorization endpoint with client_id, redirect_uri, response_type=code, scope, unique state, code_challenge and code_challenge_method=S256. The human signs in and explicitly approves access. Exchange the single-use code within 60 seconds, including the identical redirect_uri and a 43–128 character code_verifier. The code is bound to the client and PKCE challenge. Never use the implicit flow or put access tokens in URLs.

Refresh tokens are issued only to approved authorization-code clients that registered refresh_token. Exchange with grant_type=refresh_token and the same client authentication; save the replacement atomically. Reuse revokes the entire grant family. Authorization lasts at most 30 days. POST token to the revocation endpoint using client authentication to revoke that family. Machine access tokens expire after 10 minutes; no refresh token is issued for client_credentials.

### Minimal OpenID Connect
Include openid only in the human authorization-code flow. A signed RS256 ID token identifies the user by a client-specific pairwise sub, with issuer, audience, expiry, issued-at, authentication time and the original nonce when supplied. Verify issuer, signature, audience, expiry and nonce. The UserInfo endpoint returns only sub. No email, name, phone, private profile, contacts or messages are delegated. Discovery advertises only code flow, not implicit response types.

### Session/Cookie Login
Humans sign in at https://yallado.tech/login with an email code or a configured provider. Better Auth browser sessions remain separate from agent bearer tokens. Contact reveal and all account actions still require their existing human session and authorization; OAuth tokens cannot replace it.

## Scopes & Rate Limits
read:public reads the public catalog; mcp:tools calls the existing public tools; profile:read reads public provider information only. openid identifies the consenting human by an opaque pairwise subject. None grants private contact access or writes. Present access tokens only in Authorization: Bearer headers. /api/oauth/public requires read:public; /api/mcp?scope=mcp:tools requests bearer-protected tool access. Invalid bearer tokens are never downgraded to anonymous requests.

Registration is limited to 10 requests/hour per address; token and revocation requests share 60/minute; authorization requests allow 30/minute. Responses use 429 and Retry-After. Request bodies are capped at 16 KiB. Access tokens last 600 seconds and are audience-bound to https://yallado.tech. Consent, tokens and protected responses are never publicly cached.

## HTTP message signature keys
The separate /.well-known/http-message-signatures-directory publishes a public Web Bot Auth key. It is not an OAuth key or a way around Cloudflare policy. No private signing material is published.
